Bad news today, I’m afraid.
I knew I didn’t have a choice because of certain work flow issues, so I finally buckled down last night to upgrade the computer responsible for creating The Heavenly Bride, 10 Confessions, and all that to Windows 10. I followed instructions. And even though the download page and associated details had been changed from the instructions I had, I didn’t think anything BAD could happen. I knew how to install stuff.
Well. Turns out Microsuck knows how to format stuff without your permission, and they’re more than happy to do so. I don’t mean on the drive I was trying to install Windows to. I mean the external drive – a safety feature to protect data that has never failed me in many years. Until now.
According to the instructions they were supposed to ask if I wanted stuff deleted. I was never asked, of course. When I told the computer to save the installation files into my drive, I naturally thought this meant I would have an installation file on the drive added with no further changes. Because that’s how HONORABLE companies do it. No. The Microsoft company formatted the entire drive.
Which bled further out into my second computer through Dropbox, which was wiped. Which thought I wanted to delete those files, which deleted them, which took them off my second computer and will not put them back because in order to restore files Dropbox has to restore everything and it has decided to do that, my box would be full so it’s refusing to do so.
I don’t know what OTHER damage is done, but I am officially prepared for the worst now. Literally everything is gone. Some things I had backed up. Some I could not due to size or other factors. Some I can buy back – which will be a long process. Some I cannot because I had made myself.
I must now start 100% over. From scratch. I just… if I could switch to Mac I would. I so would.
That is all. More news, hopefully positive, when I can give it.
